... a nostalgia-inducing live show comprised of a curated set list performed by two seasoned local musicians: Matthew Hope and Kathryn Nelson. Drawing from early rock 'n' roll, soul, and folk revival Matthew and Kathryn have combined thier 30 years of performance expertise and cultivated a familiar songbook that appeals to a new audience in the senior sector. This music has spanned generations over the last seventy years and speaks to the ties that bring families together. Their ultimate goal is to encourage people to connect with each other and invite everyone to participate. Sing along, clap, dance in your seat or simply sit and remember. It is all welcomed and encouraged!
Kathryn's soothing alto voice and Matthew's grounded tenor creates harmonies that you'll instantly recognize. Kathryn's pop vocal style is ideally suited to honoring the sounds of vintage motown and iconic female singer song-writers, like Carole King.
Matt's gently picked acoustic guitar pairs perfectly with his calming and confident vocals. Listeners say that he brings them back to the heyday of James Taylor and Cat Stevens.
Matthew is a seasoned singer/songwriter, guitarist and performer local to the Twin Cities. Growing up around varied musical traditions without sightedness gave him a unique perception of sounds and the world around him. His earliest memories of music are the voices of Joan Baez and Pete Seger from his parent's record player. This upbringing has served him well in creating a performance style that appeals to older fans of this music.
Matt’s exceptional sensitivity to the world around him allows him to interpret music that draws listeners in, offering them a new take on their favorite tunes.
As a songwriter, his style is acoustic folk, with nods to the classic melodies of Paul Simon, James Taylor, and the like. Time and time again fans relate to his nuanced lyrics that invoke all aspects of the human experience. A comfortable sound that takes you back to a simpler time is Matt's calling card.
From the age of 5, Kathryn was a music maker; whether is was tapping water glasses with spoons at the dinner table or belting out songs from the classic film Singing in the Rain. She has sung in myriad choirs, been a back up singer and front woman for the rock band Thunderdogs, and collaborated in various jazz combos, namely No Name Jazz out of St. Paul, MN. She is currently collaborating with Matthew Hope, an established presence in the senior entertainment community in Minnesota. It allows her to serve others while doing what she loves and to her that's a purpose fulfillied.
This version of Tomorrow by Carole King is a gret example of what you can expect to hear during a senior care acoustic performance.
